Dear Giacomo,

Your latest letter saddens me greatly — you are annoyed, you'd like to work and don't know where to find a subject!! Would that I were able to find it for you — I'm revising "Anima Allegra" with Adami....... but who knows if the new version will suit you.

I have written to Paris to know if d'Erlanger has finished "Hannele" — if he hasn't, it would be available. Do you still want it, notwithstanding its defective nature of being conceived as only one act, dark as a nightmare?

Weighty dramas like "La Haine" and "Gismonda" by Sardou are not for you — and so, dear Giacomo?

Have you heard from Leonardi, whom I summoned and to whom I made a reasonable offer, the only one that was possible for us and profitable for him? I'm still waiting to see Marchesano, since your son-in-law wanted to consult with him. Make no mistake, I am disposed to help Leonardi for you and you alone — and it seems to me I have already given you proof of my willingness to do so.

Keep me informed of your latest, and believe me always

Yours warmly,

Tito Ricordi
